Sunset over the sea
Everyone recognises a great sunset and this one reminds me of a time when I was a child and my dad pointed out how they can generate such a host
of different colours.
Of course as an adult I’m interested in the science of this incredible range of colours; they are the result of a phenomenon called
‘scattering’, where the light is reflected and diffused in different ways as the sun heads towards the horizon.
Looking closely at this painting you can see all the colours of the rainbow: red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo and violet. Spot the Green? Your eye creates it by blending the blue and yellow!
