Noah Evans – 9 months

Noah was 9 months old when, dressed up to the 9s, he lets slip an enigmatic smile as the sunshine reveals a contented boy perched on a formal chair.

Mum Natasha had no idea I was painting this and when the family saw the portrait it was an emotional surprise, apart from little Noah who immediately reached out to touch the painting. I love the way that even before he can speak he recognised his place in the World.

The grip of his left hand says – seize the day – and the reflection of his skin tones on the blazing white trousers means I’ll carry his smile with me wherever I go.

Rolf turns up to admire the finished portrait.
