Michael came across Cookham in the 1960s through his love of the river where he bought a home and has lived in the Dean for the last 13 years.
After a career in accountancy and since retiring as chief executive of the Stock Exchange he has turned his energies to politics and is the leader of the council at the Royal Borough; which isn’t the same thing as mayor – but he does get to wear a posh outfit on occasions.
He is pictured wearing one of his brand new silk ties 5 for 10 Singapore dollars about a couple of quid each!
As chairman of the planning committee “I want to see the revitalisation of Maidenhead, and preserve the rural aspects of Cookham. I love Winter Hill and it’s fantastic wildlife”.
Michael plays in the Cookham Dean annual tennis championship; and adores his electric launch – Ramble – on the Thames, and his sailing boat in the Caribbean.
This year he struggled through a nine day storm in the Pacific which makes local politics seem like a doddle! Michael somehow has time to take an honours degree course in opera.
I can’t wait to hear him perform at a council meeting!
