Only Mel’s mum can call him Melvyn, and he’s been here in Broom Hill with wife Joy since the last jubilee.
Mel’s wearing the brand new style Group Scout Leader uniform – he’s been group leader since 1988 and overseas 140 beavers, cubs, scouts and explorers and their 15 leaders and helpers.
The scouts run the village fair on the Moor, and the annual bonfire night firework display at Formosa and as often happens it was his children that got him into scouting.
If you ever need a marquee contact Mel – the scouts rent them out. Away from scouting Mel’s a qualified official for the amateur swimming association and is busily involved with the Windsor swimming club.
He also loves motor racing and hopes to race his lovely green MGF one day.
It’s amazing that with all his voluntary work Mel’s got any time to work at Nestle in Hayes on Gold Blend and Nescafe original.
We wonder if they ever modelled those adverts on Mel and Joy?!
