It was late afternoon with a golden sun and I stayed in the town overnight and painted and drew it all. Back home in the studio I painted this french classical landcsape with peasants and fields of ripening corn based on my experiences of Loches.
I’ve been back a number of times since and it never fails to inspire me.
The castle at loches is where the Dauphin of Joan of Arc fame was imprisoned.
Hitchhiking in France some years ago the car came sweeping round a corner and I called out to the driver to stop….“what’s wrong?” “Nothing. But what a picture!”
If ever there was a photo opportunity, the castle at Loches in the Loire Valley was it.
