Jungle Camp Fire

 

Lying in my hammock in the jungle camp I watched the smoke from the campfire rise through the huge trees. It was a lovely calming sight – better than watching the bugs swarm all over you or face the penis colada in Last Chance saloon!
I sketched the image with charcoal from the fire and brought home the scrap of paper to build into this painting.

The unusual feature here is the paper bark. This is the wrapping from our bush meal that arrived each evening by pulley. I kept the paper bark and I’m using it in my jungle paintings, to give an authentic original feel to work. It’s stuck on with paint….
