iron harvest - final

Across Northern France and around Ypres this is a common sight at harvest time. Lumps of rusted metal ploughed up with the clumps of mud and straw.  They are some of the billion shells from the Great War revealed each year by the farmers ploughing their fields. The tractors have armour plating underneath.

Only the pile of shells revealed this as an old battlefield.

The distant tractor is surrounded by birds which look like exploding clouds.

Every couple of days the army arrive to dispose of the iron harvest, which will be ploughed up for at least the next 500 years.
