One of the great engineering feats of Canada. The building of the kettle Valley railway in the early years of the 20th Century led to this series of 5 tunnels carved out of the rock alongside this spectacular canyon. It was a gentle cycle up here past the huge fern covered forest, to these amazing bridges and tunnels. Down below us salmon were leaping up the cascading waterfall!
I enjoyed painting this tall thin picture. It seems to accentuate the steepness of the cliffs and tremendous achievement of the engineers who built it.
The tunnels at Hope are a famous tourist attraction for Rocky film fans – Stallone shot his first Rocky movie here.
